Would you like to start Half-Retire ring today? Well, there’s a way that you can do so. It’s called a stress test. Do this –  how long can you be away from the business before things start to go wrong? Now add a couple of days to make sure the problems happy.  Right now, you are probably saying, “Are you kidding me?”

You can find out what major Jenga tower wobble you have and you not being there is a great way to do it. When you get back, you can begin to fix the issues by changing the perspective of what your job is and your current role.

If you’re like most business owners your role is putting your finger in the dike when things go wrong; In Half-Retirement, your role is to create long-term fixes to the problem. While you’re away both you and your team should keep a running list of issues that happen. Then when you are back, do not tackle the symptoms, but the root causes no matter how difficult that is.

Fix the long-term issues and  do not get trapped by blaming people for issues. A lot of CEOs fall into this trap. They say, “Bob is an idiot. That’s why things went wrong.” blaming people does not solve the problem. Broken or imperfect business systems are almost always the problem. It’s only someone’s fault if the systems work perfectly.  Once the systems are right, you can blame people if they do not have the requisite talent or they do not comply with a functional system.

Once you have completed the process, rinse and repeat. this is a shipbuilding curve. The first test is hardest and the second one will be easier.
